Frequently Asked Questions about Six (6) Month Braces
How can you do braces in only 6 months?
Patients often ask if this procedure is something new, and why don't orthodontists do it? The truth is, we use the same time-tested, safe, proven techniques that orthodontists use, but we focus primarily on the teeth that show, whether it's just the top teeth, the lower teeth, or both. We don't try to fix any major bite issues; we leave that to orthodontists!
In fact, sometimes it doesn't even take 6 months: Jeremy's case only took FOUR months. He had been told he needed over 2 years of braces and major jaw surgery to correct his bite, but all he really wanted was to get the front teeth straight.

Karim had long been unhappy with the crookedness of her top front 4 teeth. In just 3 months, with the clear brackets and practically invisible wires, we'd straightened those front teeth for a beautiful smile.
I had braces in before and didn't wear my retainer; will my teeth shift again?
As long as you have teeth, they can shift around, so we follow the philosophy of, "Wear your retainers for the rest of your life, and you can be sure your teeth will always stay straight." Most patients choose the thin wires bonded to the back of their teeth - completely invisible, very comfortable, and they last for decades.
Will my braces hurt?
Some soreness should be expected the first week in particular, as your lips and teeth get used to the brackets and pressure, but ibuprofen is always sufficient to take care of it. After subsequent visits, patients tell us they usually only need ibuprofen for a day or so, and often not at all.
Just how "invisible" are these braces -- REALLY?
OK, they're not quite as clear as clear aligners, BUT....they're pretty darn close. While we still use brackets and wires, the brackets are ceramic and practically invisible; even the wires have a tooth-colored coating so they blend in. Many of our patients tell us that, even if their friends notice anything, they just think it's a retainer. Take a look - this young lady is wearing braces!

Why not Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain Veneers can definitely create dramatic Smile Transformations, and if that is really something in which you're interested, you can see more about Dr. Payet's Cosmetic Dentistry..
However, Six-Month Braces has some distinct advantages:
- There are no irreversible changes made to your teeth with drilling
- They will never need to be redone (if you wear your retainer, of course)
- MUCH less expensive. Compare about $4500 for top and bottom teeth to maybe $10,000 and up for just the top teeth!

These are William's (the guy in the video above) Before and After pictures - due to job demands, his case took 10 months.

How Affordable are Six-Month Braces, and can I make monthly payments?
We understand that it's important to keep dental care of all kinds (fillings, one-visit porcelain crowns,TMJ & Headache Therapy, dental cleanings, and more) affordable, so we offer the Quality Dental Plan that can give you up to 20% off our regular fees. We are also finding that many dental insurance plans now offer insurance for adult patients to get braces. In addition, we offer CareCredit Interest-Free Dental Payment Plans and Prepayment Courtesy savings.
Is this the same thing as Invisalign?
No, it's not. In fact, we think Six-Month Adult Braces is BETTER than Invisalign, and for a few important reasons:
- It's FASTER (aligners can't push teeth much, which is why you switch trays every 2 weeks with them.)
- It's LESS EXPENSIVE (at least $1,000 less)
- It WORKS BETTER (Dr. Payet is in control, not some lab that never sees you in person)
- Invisalign is not suited to fixing many types of problems.
This is not to say that we don't offer clear aligners - we do! Honestly, though, once patients learn all the advantages of Six-Month Smiles, they'd rather not do Invisalign.
Wouldn't you love to smile like this in the amount of time between 2 annual check-ups?
